    on a Sunday morning.

    Ingredients

    • 4 slices of sandwich bread
    • 80g Grana Padano shavings
    • 120g prosciutto
    • 4 figs
    • 80g blueberries
    • Baby spinach
    • 4 egg yolks
    • 100g milk
    • Butter
    • Salt and pepper

    Preparation

    STEP 1

In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the milk, a pinch of salt, and a grind of pepper.
Mix well until you get a smooth mixture.

    STEP 2

Soak the bread slices in the mixture, letting them absorb it for a few seconds on both sides.

    STEP 3

Heat a knob of butter in a non-stick frying pan and cook the bread slices
for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crispy.

    STEP 4

Arrange the French toast on a plate, add the Grana Padano shavings, prosciutto, figs cut into wedges, blueberries,
and a few fresh baby spinach leaves. Et voilà, your savoury French toast is ready to be served!

Variations of French Toast with Fresh Fruit

“What do you put on French toast?”
The possibilities are endless: sweet or savoury, classic or creative. Here are some ideas to reinterpret this recipe with taste.

    Sweet French Toast

    French toast with hazelnut spread
Spread the cream on the slices after cooking them as described above and add a bit of chopped hazelnuts for a crunchy touch. An irresistible classic for chocolate lovers.
French toast with strawberries and cream
Garnish the toast with whipped cream and fresh strawberries for a fresh and delicious result. The same can be done with other types of fruit, such as banana, peach, and red berries!
    Panettone French toast
Use slices of panettone instead of classic bread. Perfect for the Christmas season, for a themed breakfast, or for using up the last panettone after the holidays, to be served with crème anglaise or citrus marmalade.

    Savoury French Toast

French toast with avocado and salmon
After cooking, add avocado slices, smoked salmon, and a sprinkle of fresh dill. Nordic elegance on a plate.
    French toast omelette
Pour the egg and milk mixture into the pan with chopped vegetables and cook it like a mini omelette between two slices of bread.
    French toast sticks
Cut the bread into sticks before soaking and cooking.
These French toast sticks are perfect for dipping in sweet or savoury sauces, also ideal for an aperitivo.

    Tips annd Tricks

Curious to know more about French toast? Our tips and tricks are for you.

TIPS 1: What bread to use for French toast?

Sandwich bread is the most commonly used, but you can also try brioche, panettone, or stale bread, preferably a few days old: it absorbs the milk and egg mixture better.

TIPS 2: How to make perfect French toast?

For an optimal result, let the bread fully absorb the egg and milk mix, cook over medium heat, and only flip when it’s well-golden.
The ideal consistency should be soft inside and slightly crispy outside.

TIPS 3: What to pair with French toast?

Fresh fruit, maple syrup, aged cheeses, or cured meats: French toast is the perfect recipe to unleash your creativity!
Our advice is always to use seasonal ingredients and, of course, to add flavour with Grana Padano shavings!
If you’re organising a family brunch with friends, you can serve a variety of savoury croissants, pancakes,
and delicious madeleines alongside your French toast!

TIPS 4: What to drink with French toast?

For sweet French toast: coffee, tea, or fresh juice. For savoury: a cold green tea or a brunch cocktail like a mimosa or a light Bloody Mary.

TIPS 5: How many calories are in a savoury French toast?

A savoury French toast can contain around 250–350 kcal per serving, depending on the ingredients.
For a light French toast, choose wholemeal bread, a little butter, and serve it with seasonal vegetables for a lighter but tasty version.
It’s also possible to prepare French toast without eggs, replacing them with two tablespoons of yogurt.
For a lactose-free version, you can prepare French toast without cow’s milk, using your preferred plant-based alternative instead
