ANUGA: GREAT SUCCESS FOR AFIDOP AND THE ITALIAN PDO CHEESE SYSTEM
AFIDOP attended with great satisfaction ANUGA, the important German taste fair that was held in Cologne from October 5th to 9th and that celebrated 100 years of activity in 2019.
AFIDOP shared the experience with six of the leading protection Consortia in the Italian and international gastronomic scene: Asiago PDO, Gorgonzola PDO, Grana Padano PDO, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO, Pecorino Toscano PDO and Taleggio PDO.
The AFIDOP stand was animated by the cooking shows led by the journalist Veronika Crecelius and during which the Chef Antonino Bonetta of the Restaurant Il Valentino presented six "artistic bites" a day, small handmade sandwiches and stuffed with the six cheeses, together with other products of excellent quality and paired with white, red, sparkling wines and beers.
AFIDOP is the Association that gathers the Consortia of protection of Italian PDO cheese: the purpose of the Consortia is to protect the specific identity of each cheese, promoting its uniqueness and protecting it from imitations and counterfeiting. Thanks to AFIDOP’s activities, an international fair like ANUGA gives Italian PDO cheeses the opportunity to present themself as a system, based on the unquestionable Italian quality: in fact all PDO cheeses are closely linked to the territory of origin and follow a production specification that makes them incomparable.
Domenico Raimondo, Chairman of AFIDOP
If our PDO products are increasingly popular in foreign markets, it is also thanks to such important events as ANUGA. It is essential to ensure our constant participation in events of this caliber: our members have the opportunity to tell the uniqueness of the products to a qualified public and intercept th most important buyers. Doing all this together enhances the image and international perception of Italian PDO cheese.
Luca Cracco, Marketing Manager of Asiago PDO Protection Consortium
ANUGA has always been an event that offers great satisfaction to our members and 2019 edition has not disappointed our expectations. The collegiate presence of the most important Italian cheeses has also allowed us to show the great wealth of our dairy sector and the importance of PDO products.
Renato Invernizzi, Chairman of Gorgonzola PDO Protection Consortium
Our participation at ANUGA for the centenary edition gave us some important confirmations. The first is that the Cologne fair remains an essential event for the agri-food sector. Being part of it with other important PDO cheeses under the guide of AFIDOP allowed us to show the quality and variety of Italian dairy production to the many international visitors. Last but not least, perhaps the most appreciated confirmation is that Germans are great admirers of Gorgonzola cheese. The numbers already told us this (in the first half of this year Germany already absorbed 3149 tons of Gorgonzola with an increase compared to the same period of the previous year of +14.6%), and attending ANUGA proved this once again
Stefano Berni, Director of Grana Padano PDO Protection Consortium
For the Grana Padano Protection Consortium to attend the ANUGA fair is a must, as Germany is the number one market for the export of our cheese. Almost 500.000 wheels were exported in 2018 in this market and this number is somehow the confirmation that Grana Padano has become part of the daily culinary habits of German consumers; that’s why we also offered “snack moments” at the booth with appetizing sandwiches together with the other Italian cheeses attending with us the fair in Cologne.
Pier Maria Saccani, Director of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO Protection Consortium
At the ANUGA event we have once again proved the ability of Italian PDO cheeses to create a system, presenting us together and offering original itineraries to discover the excellence of Made in Italy at the table. The result was a journey not only in taste, but also in the cultural heritage expressed by PDO cheese, starting from Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO.
Andrea Righini, Director of Pecorino Toscano PDO Protection Consortium
“The presence in ANUGA together with AFIDOP and other Italian PDO cheese Protection Consortiums confirms that unity is strength. The collaboration with complementary and non-competitive cheeses, already started with other experiences, is important to enhance Italian food excellence with a unitary image. We greet positively experience in ANUGA with AFIDOP and we renew the full availability of Pecorino Toscano PDO towards new initiatives with the other Italian PDO cheese consortiums for a stronger Made in Italy dairy milk on Italian and international markets”.
Taleggio PDO Protection Consortium
We believe that the ANUGA exposition could be a very important showcase for us.
This based on the fact the Germany is leading the Taleggio import. The collaboration with other consortiums is a key point in order to further enhance the visibility and the value of our PDO cheeses.
